the name

early in college, i realized that without my own room, in a dorm setting (or studio apartment, as i have now) it was near impossible to cultivate a habit of intimacy & solitude in my time with the Lord. clearly not wanting to terrify my roommates by interceding for their souls while they’re studying on the other side of the room, my solution became the stairwell. needing to pray, worship, or read the Word, i began to steal away to the stairs with my Bible, notebook and guitar. it didn’t take long for this place to feel like my own, my “desolate place” where i prayed (mark 1:30). uncomfortable, dirty, barren…but empty. quiet. echoing. if there’s anything you know about new york city, it is the raucous and unceasing clamor of two million people and eight hundred thousand vehicles that assaults your ears. God gave me the one place where, miraculously, there is no noise. stone and concrete walls enclose this narrow, tranquil tower. He and i alone.
